Active Shootings In The United States
A series of four studies on active shooter incidents in the United States between 2000 and 2018 by Texas State University and the FBI found:

- 121/277 in commercial environments
- 57/277 incidents in educational environments
- In businesses closed to the public, 33/37 (89%) shooters were current or former employees

A study from the Crime Prevention Research Center found that 94% of all active shooter events between 1950 and June of 2019 occurred in gun-free zones.

Here are some additional facts from the original FBI study on the 160 Active Shootings from 2000-2013. While there are not updated statistics on this information currently published, what we know from available data indicates that these trends will remain accurate.

These numbers should show you that in essentially all active assailant situations, you will be on your own for some amount of time and that it will not always be the police who cause an event to end. Twenty three events ending in 2 minutes or less highlights just how important it is to have a prepared and rehearsed response plan ahead of time.
